In August I read 5 books – and much like July, I wanted to do some stats about these books!
Reading Stats
Lowest Rating: The Awakening by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti (I DNF’d this)
Highest Rating: 5 Stars to Children of Fallen Gods by Carissa Broadbent
Format Stats
| Audiobook: 0 | Kindle: 1 (technically: 2 including 1 soft DNF) |
| Paperback: 3 (technically: 4 including 1 DNF) | Hardback: 1 |
Total Pages Read
2,816 pages read – which given that I read three books less than last month, is mighty impressive. If only I had managed to read a couple of the other books on my TBR the number could have been higher! I’m still pretty impressed with nearing 3,000 pages.
Most Popular Genres
Fantasy
Romance
New Adult
The same genres as last month… that’s not exactly surprising since I prioritised reading the books in the series I started last month.
New Authors
Technically, Travis Baldree, Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
How was the month, reading wise?
August was a rough month for reading – personally – work presented a lot of challenges that meant I didn’t read much on breaks and I certainly didn’t read much when I was at home. I was simply too tired. I had hoped to read many more books, but I just didn’t get round to it. That being said, with all books except Legends and Lattes and The Awakening (which I’ll talk about it just a moment) I had a great time with all of the books I chose to spend my time with!
Legends and Latte’s came after I finished Red Queen and Children of Fallen Gods and I thought I needed a much shorter book, a feel good book, to cleanse my pallet with. It turned out, I got barely a couple of chapters in and I realised that, no… in fact I did not want a shorter, feel good, pallet cleanser. I wasn’t remotely interested in Legends and Latte’s – I had picked it up because based on reviews of people whose opinions I trust when it comes to books, it ticked all the boxes of what I thought I needed. And because it turned out it was not what I wanted, I decided to soft DNF it. I hope I will come back to it when I am actually ready for a shorter, feel good book. I finished the month off with The Awakening and I found out something about the book that I wish I’d known before I purchased it because as soon as I found out about it I immediately put the book away. I don’t think I’ll be picking this book up again while I’m in the mental sitaution I am in (there are a few other books I have purchased and later found out something like this but oh well!). I’ll possibly come back to it in the future, but as of right now I just can’t…
The rest of the books I read, however, were amazing. Not a bad one in the bunch. Red Queen was a re-read but I am so excited to be back in that world and I’m ready to dive back into it in September. Children of Fallen Gods was as brilliant as I hoped it would be, and I am very much looking forward to getting back into this series in September. And Legendary, whilst it started off a bit slower than I would have liked, the stakes ramped up and I was hooked – I can’t wait to finish this series! Then we finished the Flesh and Fire series by reading Born of Blood and Ash… and whilst this wasn’t exactly my favourite book from the Blood and Ash worlds (as it really suffered from ‘well we kind of know how this ends’ which took some of the shock out of it) I still really enjoyed it and I feel like I am now in an excellent position to read The Primal of Blood and Bone now! Then I did my re-read of Iron Flame, and oh boy, was I not ready for the ending (again!). It was a great way to end the month.
Yes there are plenty of books I wanted to read but didn’t get to, but here is the thing! I have plenty of time to get to them! So, I’ll try again next month!
A new one: Review Dates
As there is currently a back log of reviews being uploaded to Reading With Tyler, I felt it would be a good idea to let you know when the reviews for the books I read this month will actually be available:
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: October 5th
Children of Fallen Gods by Carissa Broadbent: October 9th
Legendary by Stephanie Garber: October 12th
Born of Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout: October 16th
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros: October 19th
I have moved to posting three times a week whilst I have the backlog, as at the moment I’m unable to post any reading updates etc as I have so many reviews to still go live. So now the schedule currently looks like this:
Every other Monday: A back log review (whilst it exists, once the back log is cleared out, there will be no post on Monday’s)
Every Wednesday: A review or blog post (this may move to every other Wednesday)
Every Saturday: A review
I hope that’s clear! It should allow me to get to posting reviews as I’m finishing the books, rather than months down the line, which gives a chance for the blog to catch up to Instagram.
