I read a lot of books in 2024, utterly smashed my Goodreads reading goal and not only really rediscovered my love of reading, but ignited a love of reading in friends and colleagues too! I’d call 2024 a success in terms of reading goals!

Of the 60+ books I read in 2024 I discovered new authors, finished series that had been long sat unfinished on my shelves, and dove into some new genres that I hadn’t really been a part of either at all, or for a long time! And so I wanted to talk about some of my favourites of 2024!
I added 15 books to my 6-star-reads Goodreads shelf this year and there were so many other books that even though weren’t 6 star reads or even 5 star reads are absolutely deserving of being included in my best of 2024!
I have chosen to do a top ten, and in order for this to not just be my 6-star-reads shelf from Goodreads, I am putting a limitation on myself – each author can only appear once (though if I want to include an entire series, I will – but it’ll be in one slot!). Honourable mentions will also be included, but all bets are off there! As many single author mentions as I want! Now that’s out of the way, let’s begin!
10. When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

I really enjoyed When the Moon Hatched and at the time I thought for sure this book was going to end up in my top 10. It hasn’t been as memorable as some of the other reads this year (I know I enjoyed it! but future me will have to embark on a reread of this mammoth before book 2!) which is why it’s only in spot 10.
9. The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen

Greek Mythology! Labors! And romance between a God and mortal! I’m here for it. Whilst I felt the ending was rushed, I’m still excited to find out what happens after The Crucible! Abigail Owen was a new to me author (like a lot of people on this list) but I am glad to have found her! Hopefully the sequel will be easier to get in the UK…
8. The Unmarked Duology by Miranda Lyn

Was this duology perfect? No. But did our main couple have me giggling and kicking my feet? Yes. I loved them, as I loved their story. I haven’t yet decided if I’m picking up the .5 as it isn’t about our main couple (though I do love Atlas!) but if I ultimately never pick it up, it’ll be okay because the duology is a great story!
7. Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L Armentrout

I still don’t really know how this book got published without me knowing about it (even though I preordered it…). But I’m thrilled that I got round to it this year! I really enjoyed the story and I’m excited to dive in deeper! I’m not really shocked that it’s not higher on my list, despite loving JLA but I would still recommend it (especially if you like From Blood and Ash…)
6. Nocticadia by Keri Lake

Nocticadia was my first real introdcution to Dark Academia and I think I’ve found a new genre that I can get on board with. I am looking forward to exploring more of Keri Lake’s work as I have heard some brilliant stuff about a number of her titles. Beaware that Nocticadia does have a Professor/ Student romance which might not be for everyone, but the plot is there to backup the romance! So all in all, a great read!
5. The Legends of Thezmarr Series by Helen Scheuerer

The Legends of Thezmarr is a series of 4 books, 3 of which I read this year. They just keep getting better and better and I didn’t want to put Fate & Furies on here without the rest! Shadow & Storms is the 4th and final book and I’ll be getting to it in January I hope!
4. The Crimson Moth

I put off reading The Crimson Moth for way too long – I shouldn’t have! I also ummed and ahhed about where I was going to put The Crimson Moth on my list! Because I am absolutely hooked by the plot and smitten with the MMC, and the FMC goes for one hell of a ride… Ultimately I settled on 4th because the books above it have been living in my head rent free ever since I read them… But I’ve heard amazing things about The Rebel Witch so I can’t wait for it’s release in 2025!
3. Quicksilver

Quicksilver was an unexpected read for me this year. I’d been seeing it pop up a lot but was put off by the cover. I am thrilled that I took the chance and read it because Kingfisher is well worth meeting! He’s got a living metal inside him and is slowly making him crazy!
2. The Shepherd King Duology

Duologies are not my favourite usually – the ending normally feels rushed and it doesn’t always sit right. Rachel Gillig nailed it with The Shepherd King duology and I adore them – I STILL think about these characters and this world! It’s just that good. It deserves to be in spot number 2.
1. The War of Lost Hearts Trilogy

This should surprise no one. Carissa Broadbent is brilliant, and I’ll hear no slander against these books. It wasn’t a debate for me, I knew I was including The War of Lost Hearts in the number one spot because I have become obsessed with everything she writes BECAUSE of these books. They’re just brilliant and I’m so glad I found recommendations for them this year!
So, that’s my top 10 of 2024! Though if you count all of the individual books it’s… top 16 books. I won’t apologise, they’re all brilliant.
Below are my honourable mentions, books I also loved this year but couldn’t either justify putting them in over another book, or the author was already on my list… And that’s the case for all of them except Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. They’re not on this list because I read them for the first time in 2023, and they’d have been at the top last year… It didn’t seem fair to put them in the top 10 this year just because they didn’t get a post last year!
Honourable Mentions:

I have managed to get all the reviews up for everything I read in 2024, and so to start of 2025 it’ll be my wrap up and TBR for the month. There will also likely be some further ‘2024 wrap up’ and possibly ever ‘2025 challenge’ style posts in 2025 while I get reading some books. We’ll then return to 3 posts a week! Hopefully with the ability for some more blog posts in there as well as reviews now that there won’t be a back log to work through at the same time as reading many more books a month that originally thought.
