Right around the time Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas was first published, I read it – excited for a new fantasy to get into! And I enjoyed it enough that when the opportunity came to receive a copy of Crown of Midnight for review, I jumped at it! And whilst I enjoyed Books 1 and 2… Book 3 was a different story. I have tried on a few occassions now to read this series and I’ve not been able to.

However I proclaimed that 2025 would be the year of giving SJM a second chance! That means starting again from Throne of Glass for the second time and really giving the series and author another chance. For two reasons.

  1. My finacé loved the Throne of Glass series, and I’d love nothing more than be able to talk to him about this series, even if I don’t love it as much as he does.
  2. And I want to read ACOTAR… But, I am stubborn and since I started with Throne of Glass, I want to finish it first.

Now, I’m not going to be attempting to read the Maas-iverse in any particular order. I’m not doing any special tandem (tandom?) reads of any of the books even though I know it’s wildly popular to do so… The main reason for this being that I’m trying to read the Cosmere in 2025 also and there are just so many books involved there that I am attempting to follow a reading order and I don’t want a forced reading order to end up being that I hate (jumping between books and series) and for that style of reading to kill off two of my challenges.

So I went with my gut, SJM has less books and so I’d read hers in series publication order (TOG came first, ACTOR second and CC third so that’s the order I’ll read them in). Cosmere involves 20+ books and so I’m hoping the reading order will help me keep track.

We shall see! I may end up changing my mind on this! I’m also not trying to read the whole Maas-iverse in 2025, just like with the Cosmere I want to START on this journey. If I read a lot of it, then great that’s awesome… but I know from experience that forcing myself to read something usually means I’m going to struggle to pick it up (I’m looking at you Fireborne…).

So without any further delays, here are the books in the Maas-iverse:

Throne of Glass:

  1. Throne of Glass (Finished!)
  2. Crown of Midnight
  3. The Assassins Blade (I am choosing to read this third instead of first)
  4. Heir of Fire
  5. Queen of Shadows
  6. Empire of Storms
  7. Tower of Dawn
  8. Kingdom of Ash

A Court of Thorns and Roses:

  1. A Court of Thorns and Roses
  2. A Court of Mist and Fury
  3. A Court of Wings and Ruin
  4. A Court of Frost and Starlight (I believe this is a .5 book, like The Assassins Blade, but it seems the recommendation to read it 4th seems accurate still so 4th in the list it is!)
  5. A Court of Silver Flames
I believe there is another book due to be released in this series, but i’m unsure of the accuracy of this information and the release date…

Crescent City:

  1. House of Earth and Blood
  2. House of Sky and Breath
  3. House of Flame and Shadow
I have no idea if this is a finished trilogy or if more books are expected…

I’m feeling more hopeful about this attempt! I’m in a good place reading wise, enjoying it and making time for it and so hopefully we’ll be able to get past Heir of Fire!

I’ll be using the tag 2025 Challenge in order to signify in a review if that book completed a challenge in any of the 4 that I’ve got going on in 2025! So look out for those! And I’ll either come back to this post and update with dates of when things were accomplished or I’ll just post an update midway through the year and then at the end of the year!
