Synopsis: Goodreads
They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.
When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.
Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.
Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her… and hers towards him.
And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.
Review:
I chose Pestilence to complete a square on my bingo board! One Word title! This whole series is one word titles, so any of them would have ended up working… But I honestly just ended up enjoying it way more than I expected to and so I chose to award it the bingo square (even though, Belladonna was read first… I honestly just forget to check the bingo board!). Onto the review.
Man oh man! I purchased Pestilence and Bewitched (by the same author) at the same time, but by the time I came round to picking a book to read, I went with Bewitched because well… witches. I wish I had read Pestilence first!! I loved our main character – Sara. I enjoyed her reasoning and her struggles with the situation she and the rest of the world were in… I loved the back and forth between her and Pestilence and was completely rooting for them to succeed as a couple…
I was even in tears at one point! I really wanted Sara and Pestilence to work! But my brain couldn’t get round the idea that at the end of the day if the Four Horsemen are doing their job… everyone dies… Yet Laura Thalassa still kept me on my toes. With three more Horsemen to go, I have no idea how wrecked this fictional Earth will be…
Is Pestilence the most complicated in terms of plot? Or the most intense spice? No, it isn’t. However, the romance, the turmoil and the tension!! I did not expect to care for these characters as much as I did, but Laura Thalassa truly had me on the edge of my seat because the amount I cared for these two! I regret nothing with this read, and I am very much excited to meet Pestilence’s brother, War!
“I came to conquer this land and its people, but instead, one of its people conquered me.”
