When Saphira opened up her café for baby dragons and their humans, she wasn’t expecting it to be so difficult to keep the fires burning. It turns out, young dragons are not the best magical animals to keep in a café, and replacing all that burnt furniture is costing Saphira more than she can afford from selling dragon-roasted coffee.
Aiden is a local gardener, and local heart-throb, more interested in his plants than actually spending time with his disobedient baby dragon. When Aiden walks into Saphira’s café, he has a genius idea – he’ll ask Saphira to train his baby dragon, and he’ll pay her enough to keep the café afloat.
Saphira’s happy-go-lucky attitude doesn’t seem to do anything but irritate the grumpy-but-gorgeous Aiden, except that everywhere she goes, she finds him there. But can this dragon café owner turn her fortunes around, and maybe find love along the way?
Review:
I was interested in The Baby Dragon Cafe because of the adorable title and cover… I know you shouldn’t judge books by their cover, but I am guilty of this! And the baby dragon’s I couldn’t resist! I’m not the biggest fan of cozy reads, and previously I have soft DNF’d cozy reads because I wasn’t remotely interested in a cozy time! I want high stakes and fast pace! I want to get invested in the first chapter or so. And so usually these books don’t do it for me.
That wasn’t the case with The Baby Dragon Cafe. I was smitten with Saphira and her cafe right from the get go. I loved the idea that the baby dragon’s aren’t allowed in other spaces because they can cause destruction without meaning to, so Saphira opened up a space that accepted them – destruction and all. It was so damn cute, immediately. Not to mention Sparky was a source of constant joy while reading The Baby Dragon Cafe (I challenge you to find someone who doesn’t think Sparky is cute?!)
Saphira (sunshine) uses the money she receives when her loved grandmother passes away to start her cafe dream, but because of the destructions caused by the baby dragon’s, costs to staff and run, and the mortgage on the place… Saphira is barely keeping her cafe going. Then Aiden (grumpy) steps in – a reluctant baby dragon owner who isn’t bonding nor training his dragon well. So he asks Saphira for her help, and after a particularly unfortunate baby dragon accident Saphira is just desperate enough for the money to say yes.
Friendship ensues, cuteness occurrs constantly, and a romance begins to bloom. I loved every moment of it. I was hit by how raw the grief in the book was, I felt like it was handled well without effecting the cozy vibes whilst also being respectful. Was the overall story a bit ridculous in places? Sure. Was the plot the best? I mean, it was very simple. But that didn’t matter in The Baby Dragon Cafe. I was there for the vibes, the cute dragons and the budding romance. I’m pretty sure this series is going to be interconnected stand alones as I don’t believe the next book in the series follows Saphira and Aiden, but I will still definitely be picking it up.
“It feels like everything leading up to meeting you was just the prologue to my life; after meeting you, the real story began. Like my real life started the day I met you…”
