It may not look it based on the reviews posted in April, but I did read a lot this month! Just 5 of those books were all part of a bind up and so I did one review for the series instead of 5… But it was actually a good reading month. Unfortunately I did hit a bit of a slump towards the end of the month when I just couldn’t seem to pick up a fantasy book for anything!!

So here are the books I read in April:

April was a brilliant reading month. Despite the slump imposed after finishing Slaying the Vampire Conqueror that meant I wasn’t able to really sink my teeth into any fantasy for over a week. I read a lot of thriller books this month and loved every minute of it!

Although, review wise it didn’t look like I read much, I beat the record set by January – not that it is a game or goal to beat the amount of books read in a month. I am always so proud to just manage to pick up and read a couple of books. And so to consistently reach 10 books a month has been brilliant so far this year!

I’m already close to what was my secondary goal for 2025 of 52 books read this year! Which means my ‘ultimate goal’ of 100 books may soon become my actual goal for 2025. That’s wild! I’m having such a brilliant time in my free time reading, and it doesn’t seem like there is any stopping me right now.

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

Queen of Shadows by sarah j. maas

I don’t think I ever thought I’d be making a Sarah J. Maas book my book of the month. And yet, here we are. Queen of Shadows was phenomenal. The whole way through I was hooked. Pacing issues finally sorted, characters going through development and growth, plot and vibes doing there thing! The was excellent. Truly.

The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole is a close runner up. It barely lost out to Queen of Shadows. The only reason it lost out was because after reading Queen of Shadows (alongside Throne of Broken Gods) I was unable to pick up and read fantasy right away! And any fantasy that I have read since QoS has not hit in the same way.

Biggest Surprise of the Month

The Ballad of songbirds and snakes by suzanne collins

I wanted so desperately to read Sunrise on the Reaping when it came out that I just knew I had to finally get through The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes first. Problem was, I was listening to it on audiobook. The big surprise was that even though I didn’t love the experience of listening to an audiobook again, I still really flipping enjoyed Snow’s prequel! I was not expecting to!

General reflection

I am fed up of mentioning how the start to 2025 hasn’t been the best. So, I’ll just say things aren’t quite on the up yet, I’m still struggling and I’ve still got some stressers on the go. But I read some amazing books this month, and between the books, the binging of Hell’s Kitchen and time with my fiancé, I’ve had a good month.

I hadn’t expected to enjoy every book I read this month, but even the ones I didn’t rate above 4 stars I still really enjoyed. Just goes to show that a 3 – 4 star rating is not necessarily a bad thing. It was still a good book! Just wasn’t what I needed it to be to give me the 5 star feeling.
