A deadly prosecutor

They call him the King of Death Row. Randal Korn has sent more men to their deaths than any district attorney in the history of the United States.

A twisted ritualistic killing

When a young woman, Skylar Edwards, is found murdered in Buckstown, Alabama, a corrupt sheriff arrests the last person to see her alive, Andy Dubois. It doesn’t seem to matter to anyone that Andy is innocent.

A small town boiling with rage

Everyone in Buckstown believes Andy is guilty. He has no hope of a fair trial. And the local defense attorney assigned to represent him has disappeared.

A former con-artist

Hot shot New York lawyer Eddie Flynn travels south to fight fire with fire. He plans to destroy the prosecutors case, find the real killer and save Andy from the electric chair.

But the murders are just beginning.

Is Eddie Flynn next?

Review:

The Devil’s Advocate is book 6 in the Eddie Flynn series, and so there may be spoilers for books 1 through 5 in the below review. Spoilers for this book will be hidden as normal.

I did not expect this story. I loved this story. I just didn’t expect it. A young boy named Andy is framed as the murderer of a loved girl in Buckstown and the prosecutor want’s the death penalty. It doesn’t seem to matter that Andy is innocent. Premise is simple enough, but it’s quickly revealed that this crime runs deeper than a deadly prosecutor and corrupt sherrif… And that was something that I did not expect.

I really enjoyed the way Kate, Harry and Eddie worked together in this story. I found Bloch to be quite the ‘convienent’ investigator. In a way that I never felt Harper was – but perhaps I just need to warm up to Bloch some more as I’m still (much like Eddie) very much hung up on the loss of Harper. That being said they are quite the found family at this point (though there was a lack of Clarence! and the newest member of the team, Denise).

With all that said, the team all came together in order to try and save Andy from the electric chair. I really struggled with that element of the book – as someone who is anti-death penalty, it was really hard to read some of the chapters… But I still enjoyed the case. I still can’t quite believe how it all came to an end but it did! It was compelling, I was on the edge of my seat, I got angry, I was in disbelief (reading the authors note didn’t help with this!), I cheered… It was an emotional ride, this one.

This is one of those books where I feel like to tell you anything about it would actually be to spoil it? This is a good one to go in blind to. The synopsis gives away very little in terms of the full picture and I do love it. So, take my word for it. This is not an Eddie Flynn novel to skip. But it is definitely a rough one to read.

‘He’s a hand grenade is what he is. There are rumors about him. Some say he used to be a con artist before he was a lawyer, and he’s been conning juries in Manhattan ever since.’

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
