July TBR

I really enjoyed how the shorter TBR worked out! It meant that I was able to both clear some books of my shelves with the prompts, read multiple book club books and still choose additional books I wanted to read for myself. I think I’m onto a winner with this system! So with that in mind, I have no notes! Let’s move straight onto the TBR!

I’m in the middle of…

Fairydale by Veronica Lancet – Kindle book
This is one of the books I was really excited to read, but intimidated by… And though I have started it, I am still very much intimidated by it and I’m only a few chapters into it!! Somehow, I have a feeling that I won’t be finishing this one by the end of June… The reviews are so mixed on this one – it’s either a 6 star read or a DNF – and that isn’t helping me kick my butt into gear and read it.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin – Audiobook
During my week off, I was using audiobooks to keep reading even though I was obsessed with playing Stardew Valley… Serpent & Dove is one of the books on my 12 books recommended by… challenges and apparently I’d got the audiobook at the start of the year so I figured why not! At the time of writing this I’m on Chapter 15.

Infernal Hearts by Danny Halliwell – ARC Read – Kindle
The publisher has sent me an early copy of Infernal Hearts to read – it releases 7th July 2025. I’m coming up to half way through at the time of writing this and enjoying it so far! So, it may not remain on this list, but for now it is here. And also, I love the cover!!

TBR Prompt Haribo Tub Picks…

I have only added a couple of additional prompts to my haribo tub this month! My fiancé once again opted to help me, which means I’ve got 6 prompts this time! So, let’s have a look at what we’ve got thanks to the prompts…

Scroll Instagram. First book you see, read.
The first few books I saw, I have already read. Then I saw a book that I thought would be good but it was in the middle of a series I haven’t read. The next book I saw was Blood and Betrayals by Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune. This does make me VERY nervous as it is over 1,000 pages… but a prompt is a prompt!

Finish a Series (max 2 books to go, read 1 book)
This might be cheating, but I’m choosing Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas! This is book 7 in an 8 book series! So, I don’t care!! My choice.

Treat yourself. Buy a new book and read it.
I’m choosing Dead Until Dark by Charline Harris. I borrowed this back in 2013, and now I have an urge to read this whole series. So, this is my choice! Plus, my partner has wanted me to read this for many years now! Armed with my kindle, I’m now buying this and beginning my True Blood journey!

Pick a number between 1 and 10. Read a book that has something to do with that number.
My partner picked this prompt, so I asked him to pick a number. He chose 7.
So, I am choosing to read The Seven by Robyn Delvey! It is a legal thriller, I believe. Seems right up my alley!

Read a book less than 500 pages.
I asked a friend to pick between three books and Exquisite Ruin by Adrianne May was chosen. This was my first Owl Crate Romantasy book! I am excited to read this – even if she chose it purely because she loved the cover! Note: The cover used as the picture in the post is the Kindle Unlimited cover – I couldn’t get a good picture of the Owlcrate cover!

Ask someone for a number between 1 and 300. Read that number from your physical TBR (skip read books).
Once again, I asked friends to give me a number between 1 and 300 and the first one to respond I would read. My friend, predictably picked 69. This lead to a series I have already read, so the next book along was To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods by Molly X. Chang. This is one of those books I picked for its pretty cover… so I know very little about it! But, I do enjoy going into books blind so I have no issue with that!

Book Club Picks

Cody & James (Cody & James’ Book Club)
As noted in my June TBR, Cody & James settled on My Friends by Frederick Backman due to a very close voting in the poll in May. I still don’t think I’ll be reading this, and as I have realised I keep picking The Will of the Many to read in space of the chosen book for Cody & James and I never actually get round to picking it up! So, I don’t think I’ll make plans in advance to read somthing else – if I do, great. If I change my mind and read My Friends, great. I’ll decide during the month!

Emmy (What We’re Reading)
This month, another chunky intimidating book has been chosen, and that is Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry. This has been on my radar mostly because there was a seeming showdown between it and Silver Elite in May when both books released. I’ve read neither of them yet so I am ready to form my own opinion! Shield of Sparrows it is!

Jamiee (Queen’s Hollow)
At the time of writing this there is no poll yet for July’s pick – so I’m not sure what this book will be! I will update this once the poll is live with the options, and then again once the book has been chosen!
