I can’t believe I’ve been back reviewing books for a year!! And my love for reading has returned with a fire that I hadn’t expected. 2024 and subsequently 2025 have felt like two of my best reading years in a long while. They’ve felt natural, unforced, filled with books I have enjoyed. I’m honestly really grateful that I decided to start reviewing again! I’ve met some great people over on bookstagram, and regularly find that they help me pick what to read next when I can’t decide – or just are really great to talk to about a book we’ve both read.

The Fable book clubs have also been a great time! I don’t always get involved in the discussions, but I do love reading them! And it is fun to sometimes read something I wouldn’t have picked for myself – and most of the time these book clubs do that to me. I definitely think I’ve hit my limit though, because having 3 additional books on my TBR each month from the book clubs is kind of rough… Which is a shame becuase there are definitely others I’d like to join!

So to celebrate this year of reading! I wanted to pull together some books that I’ve loved, and would really recommend! Let’s start with the books I rated 6 stars in the last year of reviewing books (which means some were read at the start of 2024, but stuff it! They were reviewed in the last year – they count.)

I’ve definitely added less books to the 6 star club this year, but I’ve added some new favourites which I’m definitely happy about!

From my list, I’d obviously recommend them all! But here are my top recommendations in no particular order:

The War of Lost Hearts trilogy by Carissa Broadbent (Complete trilogy)
When Haru was Here by Dustin Thao (Standalone)
Eddie Flynn Series by Steve Cavanagh (On going series of inter-connected standalones)
First-Time Caller by B.K. Borison (Start of a new series)
Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry (Start of a new series)

I doubt any of the above are such a shock if you know me in person because I rave about these books… but based on what I put on my instagram there are two books there that are absolute shocks and they are When Haru Was Here and First-Time Caller! I’m not a contemporary romance girlie, I just like my fantasy and paranormal romances more… but these were SO good! They’ve definitely made me want to try and dip my toe into the contemporary romance genre but I don’t know where to start. Maybe that’ll be a personal goal of mine for the next year.

What have been some of your favourite reads this last year?
