I thought August would feel never ending, because I was so anxious over a surgery date mid month, which was why I was quite willing to have extra books on my TBR and hopefulls list (the ones that don’t make it onto a blog post). And yet, it went by so damn quick, I feel like I didn’t read anything! But I did read plenty of books, so let’s talk about what I did get to!

Here is what I read in August

I think I had put so much focus on being able to read a lot during my recovery, and when I didn’t I very quickly felt like August had gotten away from me which meant I hadn’t read much… In actuality, I managed to read a lot in August – more than I realistically thought I would!! At the time of writing this, I have not only almost finished my entire TBR picked by prompts (including the additional book for the adaptation prompt), I’m almost finished with the Book Club read AND I read books that weren’t on the TBR and finished Blood and Betrayals…
Sometimes, I think it’s very easy to be harsh on myself thinking I should have read so much more than I did if I have time off… but ultimately, time off work or no, I will still almost always choose to read after work and on the weekends as I love to read. So, unless I hit a slump, it’s still very possible that I’ll make a good dent in my TBR!

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

book of the month
two kinds of stranger by steve cavanagh
Okay, I cannot believe that once again Steve Cavanagh is taking a BoM slot. Next year I may have to make it a rule that even if it was the best book, if that series is already on the list, it can’t be on again because this is madness. But, I can’t help it, I absolutely loved this instalment into the Eddie Flynn series. I think it was the best one yet! Beating Thirteen, which I didn’t really think was possible!
runner up
A Good Girl’s guide to murder by holly jackson
I judged this title wrong, I did Holly Jacksona diservice by not choosing to give her book a chance when it released. I am so so glad I finally did because this was brilliant and I really cannot wait to dive into the rest of the trilogy. Holly Jackson has the potential to become an auto-buy author for me, I loved this so much.

Biggest Surprise of the Month

the invisible life of addie larue by v.e. schwab
I had a hard time with Addie LaRue, for a while. And because of that it didn’t make it into the 5 star bracket, but I truly loved the story. I may have been sad for a good 98% of the book, but it really was worth the read. I am so grateful for the book club for voting for it.
General Reflection
I had quite a number of books on my prompt TBR, some books left over from July that I was reading when the month switched over and finally I had 3 hopefuls that were a ‘if I can squeeze them in’ kind of situation. And I had one book from the prompt TBR and one hopeful left over at the end of the month. Honestly, I think that means I did good in August!
I also did quite a bit of work on my TikTok and was really enjoying that! I finally made a TBR Cart in the hopes that it will help me figure out what to read the next month (without prioritising simply the newest books that arrived). Of course, not all of the books on my physical TBR are in the cart, but if I can start making progress on that then I should see that my physical TBR is getting less and less… That being said, I still haven’t figured out a way of tracking my digital TBR and honestly that is probably getting more out of hand than my physical TBR is! September has already been chosen, but I may have to try and incorperate more digital reads in October to help me feel like I am actually making a dent in them…
