But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the murder, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final year project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?

Review:

“Real men wear floral when trespassing”

I have a confession to make. When this book came out, I judged it by it’s title and said “not for me thanks” and never gave it another thought. I don’t do this often, but for some reason I really believed this wasn’t going to be the book for me. Until a Waterstones display did me in with the beautiful collectors edition of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and I couldn’t resist looking into it. I picked it up after checking out the blurb on Goodreads and decided it was worth a shot – now that I’m more into thrillers.

This was excellent. I loved Holly Jackson’s writing (I have a couple more books on my TBR of hers that I’ve been putting off for a while – but her writing is so good!! They won’t be put off much longer!), and the characters she created were excellent too. I especially loved Pip and Ravi’s friendship. They were both so different, but their banter and the way they worked together and complimented each other was perfect. Ravi’s emotional reaction to the situation made him feel very real to me, and Pip’s nature and resillience gave her an edge that I really loved and believed.

I’m so annoyed that I didn’t pick this up when it first came out – but hey, at least I now have the trilogy available to me!! No idea what the next books could be about, but I am absolutely going to read them. If even one of the other Holly Jackson books I own turns out to be as much of a hit, we could be onto a new auto-buy author here!!

“Because half less of a bad thing meant there was room for half good.”
