As we say goodbye to September (the first of the ber months!), we prepare to welcome in the best ber month, October! Now at the time of writing this I don’t know how I want to do this months TBR. There is a part of me that wants to prioritise those spooky books, the witchy books, the cosy autumnal books… and yet my TBR is just so big, I think that I do want to just leave it up to the prompt jar… We’ll see what we get to…

So, first things first…

I’m in the middle of…

A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green – Physical
I started this during my 24 hour reading challenge but put it down due to wanting a change of pace. And since that challenge has finished and I’ve found myself picking it back up – I’ve unfortunately disliked everything I’ve read. I have made the decision to DNF. As with every DNF, there is still a chance I will pick this up again but I’m not spending anymore time on it for now.

Abracadabra by Evanne Hardin Gray – ARC – Kindle
I’m in the fortunate position that I was offered a chance to read Abracadabra, early – but unfortunately by the time I got round to it, it was already released! And to add to that, I’ve not made much of a dent in it yet. So, I’ll still be working my way through this one. So far, I’m extremely torn on my opinions because whilst I’m intrigued nothing has actually happened yet to tell me what the actual plot will be…

Immortal Consequences by I.V Marie – Kindle
I had been reading this on my lunch breaks at work and enjoying it… enough. But as soon as I sat down to read it at home for more time than 20 minutes, I started to get a bit frustrated. Everything is happening too quickly and too conveniently that it keeps pulling me out of the story. As a result, I’m also temporarily putting this one down… But not marking it as DNF because I’m still pretty convinced it’s worth finishing.

Necromance by Cora Raven – Kindle
I started this because it’s relatively short and described as a dark romance version of Casper and I’m so down for that. I need a win after not gelling too much with any of my latest reading choices! So far I love the vibes of this gothic story and the main character is just the right amount of headstrong that I like her! I’m excited to see where it goes.

Onto the fun stuff!

Picks from the TBR Prompt Jar!

We do have more prompts this month than normal, and that’s purely because I do have more shorter books picked and I think that left room for an aditional prompt!

1. Read a book by a male author

I’ve gone with The Twelve by Justin Cronin – this was because my partner paid for me to get the audio book so that we could listen to it together! So, it made sense to put it on my TBR!

2. Read an unusual Genre for you

I chose Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver – I believe this is a serial killer horror dark rom com? So it felt perfect for October, but also definitely not my usual genre! I don’t pick up horror (though I want to look into it) and I’m not a rom com reader, I enjoy a rom com movie but I don’t gravitate to them in either format generally speaking. That leads me to believe this will be an interesting choice. Could be good, could be bad… It was this or let my partner suggest a book completely in the more comedic sphere, or read a sports romance and I wasn’t quite ready to dive into either.

3. Scroll TikTok and read the first book you see

The first book I saw was on an AD and I did debate not counting that – but the book was available on Kindle Unlimited in the UK and I really didn’t want to have to buy a new book in order to do this prompt! So, we’ve got Until The World Falls Down by Jordan Lynde. I know very little about this except the cover is stunning and that it is a Dark Romantasy! I’m excited!

4. Dealers Choice: Choose a book. No limitations

I went with Powerful by Lauren Roberts. Reason being, it’s a novella that should fill in some of the gaps I had in fearless and I’d like to get those gaps dealt with! But also I haven’t decided if I want to get fearful, and so I’m hoping that by reading this it’ll help me decide one way or the other! Honestly the nature of ‘dealers choice, no limitations’ means I could have picked so many books for this! But I went with a novella because there is a chance that the book club book could be a chunky one again…

5. Pick a book from any fable book club that you missed – but was chosen this year.

I love this prompt and have been hoping to get it for a while so that it would force me to catch up on some of the book club picks! Because it’s October, I decided to go with Francesca’s thriller book club, The Final Chapter and I chose Love, Mom by Iliana Xander. I got this book in the sales in August I believe and I thought I’d read it then but I just didn’t get round to it! October is once again the perfect time for it!

6. Read a book NOT on your TBR Cart

I thought this would be difficult, but actually I had recently purchased a couple books, one of which was a thriller and I thought perfect! So I’m choosing Ask for Andrea by Noelle W. Ilhi! I think this is a paranormal thriller – as I believe we follow three girls who are all trying to take down the person who murdered them!

7. Read a book that was gifted to you

I was torn between two books here, but ultimately the first choice is on my hopefulls every month because I know I’ll read it when the time is right. So I went with Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson which was sent to me my the Bloomsbury Bookmark’s programme earlier this year as a reward for reaching I think it was the second tier. I do want to read all of Holly Jackson’s work, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pick it for this prompt as it was perfect.

Digital TBR Take Down

Silver Elite by dani francis

I purchased this right around the release because I thought this would be the book I’d want to read between the two that were sort of being put against each other in May (Silver Elite and Shield of Sparrows). Well, as we know that didn’t happen because I read and fell in love with Shield of Sparrows so pretty cool that the wheel has decided that I will be reading this in October.

Now… I did preemtively do this, thinking that I wasn’t going to have many kindle books on my TBR this month as a lot of the books I wanted to read were physical – but the prompts didn’t quite work out that way. I have three kindle books from my prompts – three out of the 7 so just under half of my books will be kindle reads… Regardless, I’m still excited to read Silver Elite!

Book Club Picks

I’m in a number of book clubs, but I often can’t decide in time to post which club I want to try and partake in that month. So I’m going to list all of the clubs I’m in and the book chosen for that month and then if any of them show up in my wrap up, you’ll know which club it was chosen for!

Bailee’s Book Club – Terror at the Gates by Scarlett St.Clair
Binged & Unhinged – Still on The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson I believe
Cody & James’ Book Club – Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
Queen’s Hollow – Alchemised by SenLinYu
The Final Chapter – The Intruder by Freida McFadden
What We’re Reading – Alchemised by SenLinYu
