Synopsis: Goodreads

Adena and Paedyn have always been inseparable. Fate brought them together when they were young, but friendship ensured they’d always protect each other and the home they built in the slums of Loot. But now Paedyn – an Ordinary – has been selected for The Purging Trials, which means almost certain death.

Now alone in Loot, Adena must fend for herself. After attempting to steal, it’s a mysterious man from the market who comes to her rescue. Mak’s shadowy past and secretive power set him apart from the other low-level Elites of Loot. And as the pair team up to see their loved ones before the Trials begin, the quest tests their loyalty, their love, and their lives…

Review:

Powerful is the novella that is supposed to be read between Powerless and Reckless however because Powerful and Powerless are so connected, any spoilers at all will be hidden as I don’t want to spoil any of them (though honestly, I don’t want to write ANY spoilers).

I’m beginning by saying – I should have read this after Powerless. I regret leaving it. I don’t think I have ever really felt this way about a novella – I usually assume novellas can be read whenever you want but Powerful proved me the hell wrong. This needs to be read before Fearless at least. Because I knew the ending for all of the characters I knew throughout the whole read where we were ending… I do wish I hadn’t known that information so that I could have possibly enjoyed it more!

Now, with that having been said – I loved this story. I loved meeting Adena and Mak and seeing how they met and how they got to know each other and work together. Lauren Roberts’ writing is so easy to read, which does lend to Powerful being a quick read! But please do yourself a favour and read it before Fearless!

It’s hard to talk about this novella without spoiling something within the trilogy! So this is one of the shortest reviews I am writing… but it’s not because I didn’t really enjoy it. I just really think this is one of those books you’re only going to be reading if you’re enjoying the Powerless trilogy anyway, and so I don’t want to risk spoiling anything.

So, I wish I had read it earlier. I loved Adena and Mak. I will definitely be reading Fearful (which takes place alongside Fearless I believe).

“See you in the sky.”
