What a month! October is a really rough month for me emotionally as it contains the anniversary of losing my Dad and this year was a big anniversary (10 year) and as a result I have spent a lot of this month in a very emotionally vulnerable position… And so, I was really kind to myself and let myself read what I want, when I wanted, even if the book wasn’t on my TBR.

Here is what I read in October

I didn’t expect this at all! I read so much in October, despite the fact that I was really working on tackling the TBR as I wanted to mark it all as read! But I still managed to read outside of the TBR and read some of the best books this month! Butcher & Blackbird was such an unexpected gem, truely! I did unfortunately DNF two books (one is a soft DNF because unfortunately I’m just not picking it up so I need to wait until I’m called to it!) – which I do hate doing, but given that I have so many books I want to read, I have really decided I need to start DNFing…

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

book of the month
Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne weaver

I didn’t expect to love this, but I had a great time. I honestly love Rowan and Sloan so much, and the other couples didn’t quite compare to Butcher & Blackbird’s couple!

I am so glad I chose this one finally – I had gone to put it on my TBR for a couple of months but always chose something else. Good on September Tyler for putting B&B on Octobers!

Runner up
Thorns & fire by Helen Scheuerer

I did debate between this and Leather & Lark, but settled on Thorns & Fire because I simply love Wren and Torj so much and I feel sick at the moment not knowing how the hell book three is going to fix this – because I absolutely need it to! I can’t handle these two being in the situation they’re in. I need fixes!

Biggest Surprise of the Month

Immortal consequences by i.v. marie

This one is really sad honestly – when I saw the author pop up on social media marketing her book I was so excited for it. And as a result I went in with high expecations! They weren’t met. I think it’s a case of the author trying to do too much – there were too many POVs which meant that we were jumping around a lot and every time you started to get interested in a POV, we switched… I’m so sad that this didn’t hit for me.

General Reflection

Overall, even though I had some DNFs and lower ratings this month, I read so many 4 star and above books that I absolutely declare October to be one of the best reading months this year! I expected October to be a hard month in terms of reading and even though there was some crazy shit happening at work (that definitely distracted me and took me away from being able to enjoy reading at all times…) I managed to absolutely exceed my own expecations!
