December is going to be different! I think I’m going to trial this ‘free reign’ month a couple times a year next year if it goes well in December because I think it might be fun to have free reign every now and then!

So, this December I’m only going to have 2 prompts and my Digital Take Down read (if neither of my prompts are kindle reads) and then I have total free reign to read whatever I want to for the rest of the month. It gives me the option to do a 24 hour reading challenge if I decide to… or pick a couple of series’ I want to finish (or start and finish…)… or just mood read my way through the month! I’m excited.

So, first things first…

I’m in the middle of…

Firstly, I want to say – yes I know this is bad… there are a lot of books on the go at once here right now. But that’s because I’ve wanted to read at times where I haven’t had my regular options (so I started another audiobook) and it hasn’t been a great time for me to get through my normal options this last week of November… So we are taking a number of books into December with us…

Quicksilver by Callie Hart – Physical Read
I got it into my head that I wanted to re-read Quicksilver before I started Brimstone (and I stand by this!), however I could not have predicted that I would simply just not be able to get through it. Through no fault of it as I know I love this book, just once again through the timing wrecking me. I’m only about 30% of the way through, when I initially thought I’d be done after a couple of days!!!

Rage and Ruin by Jennifer L. Armentrout – Audiobook
This was an unexpected decision. One of my goals going into 2026 is going to be to actually try to finish the series I start. And one of the best ways to do that (if it is complete) is to just read it back to back to back… which is how I used to read! I’m not sure why I changed, but I’d like to go back. And so when I read Storm and Fury in November, I started Rage and Ruin after I finished it and then of course work got so busy that I couldn’t concentrate on it and the audiobook… soooooo… it’s coming with me into December

Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole – eBook – Kindle Unlimited
This is the last book on my 12 books list that I think I’m going to get to (I’m just not emotionally okay to read A Love Letter to Whiskey! And that’s okay!) and I’m having a great time! I expected to finish this one today when I got back from Comic Con and then I promptly fell asleep (Comic Con is overwhelmingly exhausting, okay!). So, it too is coming with me into December.

And yes, we’re still listening to The Twelve… or planning to anyway, because we actually haven’t listened to it in a while. So, I’m not including it in this list.

Onto the fun stuff!

Picks from the TBR Prompt Jar!

1. Read a book from Andy’s Shelves

I asked him if he wanted to recommend a book, or pick from a few I offered or just go with A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson since that was on his list of books he included in my ‘books my fiancé wants me to read’ video on TikTok earlier this year. He chose A Language of Dragons – I can’t say I’m totally surprised by this, but that’ll be book 1!

2. Read a book released this quarter

Alright, I simply couldn’t choose between two books and so this is my TBR and I make the rules! Which means I’m choosing both. The first is Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber and the second is Silver & Smoke by Helen Scheuerer. I’m choosing both because Alchemy of Secrets is a relatively short book which is quite nice after the large books I have read recently! And for Silver & Smoke, it’s the final book in The Ashes of Thezmarr trilogy and I’d really like to finish another series before the year is out. I was kind of annoyed at myself when I realised how many series’ I have not completed (at least according to my Goodreads), so I couldn’t resist the urge to finish one out.

Digital TBR Take Down

Good Spirits by b.k. borison

Alright, that’s handy! I thought about spinning again to be honest because I already hoped to read Good Spirits in December but then I thought why make things harder. Just make it official that it will be read because it has been chosen for the Digital Take Down! I’m very excited for this read!
