Synopsis: Goodreads

Two decades ago, the Bloodmoons ruthlessly murdered Saffron’s parents, destroying her idyllic childhood. Hellbent on revenge, she lied her way into the elite Silvercloak Academy of detectives with a single find a way to bring the Bloodmoons to justice.

But on the eve of her graduation, her deception is exposed, and she’s given only one go undercover and tear the Bloodmoons down from the inside.

Descending into a world where pleasure and pain are the most powerful currencies, Saff must commit some truly heinous deeds to keep her cover – and her life. Not only are there rival gangs and sinister smuggling rings to contend with, there’s also her growing feelings for the kingpin’s tortured son, and curious prophecy foretelling his death at Saff’s hand.

With each day testing her loyalties further, Saff’s web of lies becomes harder to spin. And when one false step could destroy everything and everyone she’s ever loved…the mage who dedicated her life to vengeance might just have to die for it.

Review:

You know, I’ve been asking myself “Why did you wait so long to read Silvercloak?” ever since I finished it and I realised that not only do I not know, but I know there is a reason… Which is an odd position to be in. Is it because everyone was reading and loving it? Was the hype just too much and I needed to wait for it to cool off? Or was it because I didn’t love Our Infinite Fates in the way I had hoped to? But then that would make no sense since Silvercloak was way more ‘for me’ than OIF ever was…

I don’t know. All I do know, is that this was epic. I’m so glad I finally read Silvercloak, because everything about it was excellent. From the writing, to the relationships, to the magic system and the orders… It was brilliant. I do understand now, why so many people that I follow were reading and loving this book.

Saff, our FMC, was badass. And not in a ‘we call her badass because she was written by a female, badass’ but truly badass. She knew how to think through a situation, both to get to a solution and to try and get out of it, she knew her way around combat and she wasn’t afraid to use the magic the author gifted her with!!! I loved her. She’s possibly one of my favourite FMCs of 2025 because she was just written in a way that was unapollogetically brilliant. It was nice.

I adored her relationship with Nissa and personally, I’m hoping for more of it!! Because I don’t care what the ending of this book says, Saff is not going to be totally okay with the position that she’s in with our MMC! Right!? This is one of those potential love triangles that I am absolutely okay with because I totally see BOTH sides of it! Nissa was the original love interest, Levan is the love interest post Bloodmoons… And I see how both sides could be end game. I’m excited for it.

As I mentioned, I loved the magic system in this book – so a quick recap for those of you who haven’t read it yet! It’s a wand based magic system where you can master different types of magic (or be a novice at different types of magic) but your magic is fuelled by pleasure and can be enhanced by pain! That does not mean that Silvercloak was full of smut and spice. It wasn’t – there are other types of pleasure (and pain!), and Laura showed those beautifully. My personal favourite is our FMC’s love for a certain hot beverage that fills her pleasure well (it would fill mine too!).

Honestly, I can’t recommend Silvercloak enough it was excellent and I really think if you like your fantasy with a hint of romance (that doesn’t steam roll the plot, but is definitely there and a core point!) then Silvercloak is 100% worth picking up. How many times can I say it was brilliant before you’re convinced to read it?

“Don’t call her a filfthcloak.”
