He’s the Ghost of Christmas Past. She’s not exactly Scrooge.
Ghost of Christmas Past Nolan Callahan intends to spend this holiday haunting like every other—get in, get out, return to his otherwise aimless existence as a ghost awaiting the afterlife. But when he’s faced with Harriet York, the sweetest assignment he’s ever had, he suddenly finds himself wishing for a future.
Harriet York has no idea why she’s being haunted. She’s a good person—or, at least, she tries to be. A people pleaser to her core, she always does what’s expected of her. But as she and Nolan begin to examine her past, they discover there are threads that bind them together— and realize there might be more to moving on than expected.
With the deadline of Christmas Eve fast approaching, will they find the key to their futures in each other’s pasts? Or will they stay firmly in the present, indulging in their unexpected, spirited connection?
Review:
Okay, I don’t normally read Christmas Romances, but this was honestly so cute! Nolan and Harriet absolutely stole my heart with both their bickering and their natures and ultimately their romance. So, let’s talk about it!
I was reading Good Spirits as part of my advent calendar in December – where I am picking an amount to read every day and that amount is uninterupted – and I do think that didn’t allow me to enjoy the book as I could have if I had read it in binge chunks (perhaps over 2 days!). That being said, I still really enjoyed it and thought it was really cute.
There wasn’t exactly a twist as such, at least not one that wasn’t quite clearly telegraphed and therefore predictable throughout the story. But, I do think (especially with a seasonal read) there is a time and place for that kind of a story! And I really did like Nolan and Harriet’s story.
We join Harriet after a day of people pleasing at her own expense when she meets Nolan – her personal Ghost of Christmas Past! And then go on a journey with them trying to ‘right Harriet’s wrongs’ in preperation for her being passed to the next Ghost to continue her journey… And along the way, the pair have to fight their growing feelings for each other.
It’s not a very long book, but as I said it is cute and it absolutely fit the Christmas vibes perfectly. Now, I am not sure if every book in this series is a going to be a Christmas Romance – but the next one is called Grim Tidings I believe, and we follow a Grim Reaper! So I am very much looking forward to it, and will absolutely be continuing it.
“What a gift that is. To still wish and dream and want. To find the good. To wear it on your sleeve.”
