2026 Challenge: 26 in 2026

Alright, I can’t believe we’re even considering our 2026 challenges! Not only has 2025 gone by so quickly, but December is flying by and I’m running out of time to finalise my personal challenges for next year!

However, one that I have been working on for a couple of weeks is finally ready! And this is the 26 books to read in 2026 challenge. So, here is the very simple graphic showing the list!

Some of these have been inspired by comments from friends or comments on TikTok / Instagram posts that I did requesting recs! But a lot of them are books that were on my TBR this year, or are on my radar for next year releases, that I simply want to prioritise!

Now my 26 in 2026 list is only new to me series / standalones. I was unable to narrow down my list to 26 when I was considering the series I want to continue as well! And so, it will be a separate challenge to myself next year – to try and catch up with ongoing series, or complete finished series!

  17. The Poisoner by I.V. Ophelia (this is out on KU, not sure if it’s been picked up for trad and that’s why it says Expected Publication January 2026)

So, I went through my books read this year and realised that not only was I having rating regrets on a few books, but also that there were many months this year where I read a lot of excellent reads! As a result, picking the best and worst book of the month came down to ratings first, and what stuck with me second. Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber was described as an adult Caraval - and I adored Caraval so naturally I was hyped for this release. Then the reviews came out which made me nervous… I put it off until I drew it for a TBR prompt and then accidentally ended up buddy reading it with a friend. I had an excellent time doing so. Here’s the thing, there are so many books releasing next year, and there is no way I have heard about them all or have them all on this list… but this list are the ones I either have on preorder or reminders set to buy them (because I can’t keep surprising myself with these preorders that you have to pay for later!!). Oh it feels GOOD to have actually read book 2 in this trilogy! When I picked to reread Storm and Fury I knew I needed to actually continue the trilogy and finish it this time, so naturally I’m really pleased to have prioritised that and read Rage and Ruin!
