January ended up being a really odd month for reading. I was reading every day but everything felt like it was taking so much longer to read… So, I definitely didn’t read as much as I had wanted to. Off to a rocky start to 2026 in terms of reaching 120 books read this year! But I did make it to 10 books in January, just about. That being said, we’re back with our February TBR!!
I already know I may struggle sticking to the TBR in February, not because I’m not looking forward to any of the books on it but because there are 3 preorders of mine releasing in February! And I’m so excited for them all! Plus the new copies of the Unearthly trilogy by Cynthia Hand are releasing and since I’m trying to complete series I read when I first started blogging, this is one of them!
So many books to read… not enough hours in the day to read them all!
So, first things first…
I’m in the middle of…

Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline – Tandem, hardback & audio
I still cannot believe that I haven’t finished this duology! I was one of the people that desperately wanted more story time in the Ready Player One world, then we got it and somehow I intimidated myself into not reading it!! I did start it, but I fell out of love with audiobooks and so had to put it down. So, thanks to my prompt jar for giving me the kick I needed to start this!
Onto the fun stuff!
Picks from the TBR Prompt Jar!
1. Read a book that has multiple words in the title. None can be: The, Of, And, A, An (this prompt is from my loving fiancé)
I didn’t expect this to be as difficult as it was! I narrowed it down to two books in the end, and again let myfiancé pick from those two. A decision was made and we picked Red City by Marie Lu. This is one of the newest books to join my collection and I’m actually glad we picked it! I’m torn at the moment between reading the ones that have been on my shelves the longest, and trying to make sure that the books I’m bringing in now don’t turn into those that are waiting on the shelves for a long time. So, it’s a balance! But, I’m excited to read Red City – else I wouldn’t have purchased it!
2. Read a book on your paperback shelves
Okay so this specifically meant my TBR cart was out, and it had to be on my paperback bookcase… I really wanted to try and make a dent in my 26 in 2026 list this month too, and even though I thought all of those had been moved to my Cart (if physically in my possession and a paperback) I found Nightshade by Autmn Woods was acutally (and probably the result of me putting it in the wrong place after choosing my 26 in 2026) on my paperback shelves! So I’m pretty happy with this find! I’m really excited to get to this. I really wanted to read it in my 10 before the end but I just ran out of time!
3. Read a book where the cover is mostly a solid colour
As mentioned in the prompt above, I was trying to be very conscious of my 26 in 2026 list while picking my TBR this month – so I picked three options and then chose Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigid Kemmerer as I keep passing it over for other books during other prompts! But not this time! This time it is the chosen one. It has a mostly white cover and so it counts!
4. Choose a book that works towards completing a BINGO square.
I made this harder than it needed to be. Truly!! As a result, because I could literally only find one book that there was any kind of agreement on it counting, I have back tracked on my ‘the 26 in 2026 books can’t count towards a BINGO square’ rule…
I chose to try and complete a challenge square, specifically ‘Read a book where the FMC or MMC shares the name of a friend’ and I could only find two! One had a main character called Jake however he was not the MMC (he was the son of) and then Charlotte was the FMC in another option, but I don’t know if my cousin (who I consider a friend too) counted? In the end I went with Bury our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E Schwab but I may also try to read the second book, which was The Whisper Man by Alex North because Jake seems pretty important in that book!
5. Ask a Friend! Let them choose a read! WENDY!
Wendy has been waiting for this ever since I told her she was in my prompt jar! And finally, it was her turn. She has sent me well and truly out of my comfort zone with this one, as she chose Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. I’m not an expert by any means and so explaining why this is out of my comfort zone is a little tricky. First, I don’t typically read translated books – I do have a few on my TBR but not many (and this isn’t for any reason, I just don’t gravitate towards them often), and secondly I belive this is story has an MM romance, which again is not typically what I read. I believe its genres are Xianxia (fantasy and high-magic) and Danmei (boy’s love, I think!)! She’s told me the basic story and I’m excited to give it a try!! Plus, it feels like there is a whole world of stories that open up to me if I enjoy this (she’s already on my case about Heaven’s Offical Blessing!!)
6. Let Fable pick a book for you, using your TBR list as it is.
This one is to punish me. I love the idea of the Fable mascot (Scout? I think!) picking a book for me using my TBR list… however I never update it. My Goodreads TBR (or want to read I think it’s actually called on both apps) is the most up to date… so this definitely felt like a punishment. But it did pick a book that I have had for a while but really looked at twice since buying… Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs! I got this book last year I think but I’ve just ended up ignoring it on my shelf! So, good job Scout! (If that is your name.)

Digital TBR Take Down

Fearful by Lauren Roberts
There is very little in my TBR this month that is a kindle read, and so we spun the wheel and got Fearful! I’m actually pretty happy with this, because it will probably allow me to possibly pick up Heat of the Everflame and/or Glint in February even though they are not on my TBR!
