Synopsis: Goodreads

Trinity Marrow has lost the battle and her beloved Protector. Even with both demons and Wardens on her side, Trin may not win the war against the Harbinger.

Bringing Lucifer back to the world to fight the Harbinger is probably a really, really bad idea, but they’re out of options — and the world’s ultimate fallen angel is the only being powerful enough to impact the outcome.

As Trin and Zayne form a new and more dangerous bond and Lucifer unleashes Hell on earth, the apocalypse looms and the world teeters on the end of forever. Win or lose, one thing is certain — nothing will ever be the same.

Review:

Grace and Glory is the third and final book in Jennifer Armentrout’s ‘The Harbinger’ trilogy. And book 3 picks up right after the end of book 2, so there will certainly be spoilers for the previous book(s). Any spoilers for Grace and Glory will be hidden as normal. I did do the audio for book 3, just as I had done with the first two books and I absolutely regret nothing – this voice actor was excellent (I love her Peanut and Grim voices specifically, ha).

Onto the review of the book! As mentioned, we pick up right from the ending of book 2 – the reveal that Zayne is alive and is actually a fallen angel! Though we find out pretty quickly – like, immediately – that all is not what it seems with Zayne… This twist with Zayne, that I won’t mention for spoiler reasons, was not one that I loved honestly. I didn’t love all that came with it either – including one of those tropes that I just do not love, read the spoiler section at the end of the review for more information.

But I really did enjoy the plot and where the story went! I loved all the elements that came together in order to bring this story to a close! I think at this point, Zayne and Trinity have definitely earned my love, they’re on par with Roth and Layla now! Which I didn’t think would happen just based on how little I cared for him prior to this trilogy.

I didn’t think as far as endings go, this was an impressive one. The lead up to the ending had me ready to back track on my comments about the ‘bad’ (read the spoiler bit if you’ve already read this trilogy to find out what I mean) and award a 5 star review! But the ending did have me feeling like this story was unfinished. The Harbinger story line, complete. But there are a lot of loose ends and plot lines that have been introduced but have gone no where… There is a part of me hoping that one day JLA will revisit Trinity and Zayne and write even just a stand alone for at least one of these plot lines that haven’t been completed!

Okay, let’s talk spoilers because I have somethings to say – good and bad!

First, the bad.

When Zayne returned without his memories, I thought okay, this could be fine! But it very quickly was not fine, and when the two ended up having unprotected sex as a result of a moment of heat (while he’s without memories) I just knew that it was going to lead to the damn pregnancy trope. I hate this! And as predicted Trinity did spend a good portion of the book worrying about her abilities to be a parent only for another character to confirm that she wasn’t pregnant and then it all disappeared. I just didn’t like this combination of situations and was pretty bored of it.

Second, the good.

I loved the wardens and angels working with the demons in Grace and Glory. We’ve obviously been getting stints of this throughout the original trilogy – The Dark Elements and this trilogy, but we got an excellent example of it with Lucifer joining the fight, Grim ‘assisting’ and Michael. Yeah, I liked this a lot. Not to mention Caymen’s sass, Lucifer’s obsession with Supernatural and Tony’s appearance! There were some great characters in this one!

Finally, the great.

Peanut. I have loved this character since we met him. He provides comic relief, he’s sweet and super easy to adore. The reveal that Peanut is Michael doing whatever he can to spend time with his daughter, get to know her, and help her when she needs it and he’s able to… Damn well ruined me. Did I see it coming? No, not at all. But I simply loved it. If it wasn’t for the bad mentioned here, and the ending leaving things feeling unfinished, this reveal would have made my 4 star read a 5 star. I am a sucker for a father figure trying their damn best or just being excellent…

So, I loved it. The trilogy, the characters, the story – I loved them. It felt so good returning to some of Jennifer’s previous work after kind of falling out of love with her newer stuff, it reminded me why I love her and the characters that she creates. I absolutely recommend picking up this trilogy – just read The Dark Elements first!

“I am of the belief that there are few things more empowering than love.”
