Guys, I don’t know what happened in February. It simultaneously felt like a really good reading month, but also an awful one and I can’t pinpoint why or what happened or when it happened. Still, I am surprised to say that once again I managed to not only read the 10 books ‘required’ to meet my reading goal of 120 books, but also surpassed it and read 11 books! I once again got through two audiobooks, and I’ve been loving having this addition to my day.

Here is what I read in February

I had such a good month in terms of the books I read! It was the month of the 4+ ratings (except for Fearful, but Fearful wasn’t a bad read either!). I also read one of the creepiest thriller books I have ever read, and one of the most unique fantasy romances ever – A Stage Set for Villains, AND my first 5 star read of 2026 so far, in Warrior Princess Assassin! Can’t fault my month in terms of what I read! I just wish I had read more. But it’s okay, it’s the shortest month of the year and there are plenty other days for reading on the way!

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

book of the month
Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigid Kemmerer

Absolute no brainer – I adored Warrior Princess Assassin. I loved our main characters, I loved the conflicts, the trauma and chance for healing and growth… the bonding… the romance. No faults, I adored this and I simply cannot wait for the sequel. I’ve been known to say I wish it was November on multiple occassions even though I’m getting married in October and so shouldn’t be wishing the year away! I just need Captive Traitor King, yesterday.

Runner up
Morning Star by Pierce Brown

After Golden Son, I could not have predicted giving Morning Star 5 Stars, and yet here I am rating it with 5 Stars… I listened to the Graphic Audio and it absolutely enhanced my experience, however the words were genuinely just so good this time round. The action never stopped, the friendships really wormed their way into my heart, and I loved the story. I’m shocked too. Truly.

Biggest Surprise of the Month

Morning Star by Pierce Brown

As I said above, I could never have predicted a 5 Star rating for Morning Star, given how I rated Golden Son 2 Stars.

This is one of the best trilogy endings I have read in a long time. From the first page I was hooked. Pierce Brown was always a good writer – I just didn’t like the story… Now, that is simply no longer the case, because this was phenomenal.

Any 2026 Challenge progress?

26 in 2026

In January I only read 1 book from the 26 in 2026 list! But in February, I managed to read 4 more (with another one being read!). This feels like great progress towards getting through all of the 26 books I really wanted to read in 2026!

Ticked off now we have (I’ll switch to images when a list starts to become too much!)

The Second Death of Locke by V.L Bovalino
Nightshade by Autumn Woods
To Cage a Wild Bird by Brooke Fast
Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigid Kemmerer
A Stage Set For Villains by Shannon J. Spann

BINGO!

I didn’t entirely focus on the Bingo board in February, but I did have a prompt that was read a book that works towards completing a square. I chose to try and complete a Challenge Square – Read a book where the FMC or MMC shares the name of a friend. I picked two books for this hoping I’d read at least one of them:

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E Schwab
and
The Whisper Man by Alex North

And I did read The Whisper Man! I’ll be honest, there was a part of me that hoped I’d read both so that I could use The Whisper Man for a different square, but it is what it is!

So I managed to cross off 2 squares in February!

  • Challenge Square – Read a book where the FMC or MMC shares the name of a friend – The Whisper Man
  • Finish a Series you started in 2025 – Grace and Glory (The Harbinger!)
Read 120 books in 2026

A similar story to last month in February – I began the month thinking 10 books would be no problem, then found myself not really slumping but slowing down mid month. At that point I abandoned my TBR and managed to actually get some more books read! I’ve also been enjoying having an audiobook too and from work, it feels like starting my day with a book and ending it with one (I also read before going to bed so truly ending it with one!). I didn’t necessarily enjoy February, but the books I read would say otherwise as it was a great month for ratings!

I finished 10 books in February. Don’t ask me how many I have on the go. It’s not pretty.

Read a shelf on the TBR Cart

This is also a BINGO challenge square, but it really will take a while to complete, So I’m including the progress here!

I read one book off the TBR cart, and it was off the hardback shelf so it doesn’t even add to the progress of January! But, we’ll keep going.

I also wanted to add that it may get to a point where there are book on the cart that I just don’t want to read anymore. If that happens I’ll do a 1 for 1 swap to replace the book with something I do want to read. And there is nothing stopping me from adding more books to the cart! But if I do, then I have to finish those as well in order for the square to be marked off. So at the moment, I’m not adding anything to the cart – but I may in April look at the books that I keep passing over and see if I want to swap any out.
