March… otherwise known as the month where I really realised how tired I was. I have been complaining about how exhausted I am pretty much since the new year, because work has been non stop crazy since December started. But things slowed down for me in March – I wasn’t able to do the things I enjoy so much, because every moment I was at home I wanted to try and sleep. As a result, by mid March I’d only read three books… I was half way through another, and half way through a novella that had bored me so much I’d fallen asleep while reading it…

Luckily I convinced myself to DNF the one book that was boring me to the point of sleep and then managed to pick up a bunch of books back to back that I really enjoyed! And I’m really glad for it! Because even though this month was a slow and hard month, I still managed to read some great books.

Here is what I read in March

I never expected to find two 5 star reads in March given how hard to please I felt just down to my exhaustion. And yet, we did! Both Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil and Daggermouth had me hooked. No, I wasn’t able to steamroll through and speed read, but these two I really loved. But after I gave myself permission to DNF, things picked up for me and I had a good time with all of the books I read!

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

book of the month
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.e. Schwab

This was a beautiful read about immortality and how different people handle it… about love, hate, betrayal, revenge… It was about so many things, wrapped up in a beautifully written story. I tandem’d with the audiobooks and all three narrators were wonderful and they really added to the experience! I do not think this will be for everyone, but I loved it.

Runner up
Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe

Everyone was loving this, so there was a part of me that did worry I’d be in the minority – it’s why I liked to avoid really hot books while they’re hot, typically… But Daggermouth was excellent. The dystopian world H.M Wolfe has created has me so intrigued, the characters were excellent, and the hatred this author drew out of me towards one of her characters!? Unheard of. This is an excellent dark dystopian!

Biggest Surprise of the Month

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I had a hard time deciding which book was the biggest surprise for March but ultimately I have chosen The Inheritance Games. Mostly because although I kind of knew what I was getting into, I didn’t know what I was getting to. And I had a wonderful time with this mystery! I can’t wait to continue this series, because I am invested!

Any 2026 Challenge progress?

26 in 2026

I only read 2 books from my 26 in 2026 list in March. Which I am slightly saddened by because I had hoped to read at least one other book, I just didn’t get to it by the end of the month. I am hoping to get a few more of these read in April though!

BINGO!

I only crossed off one square in March – which again is saddening! I had attempted to read a sports romance but I DNF’d it, so that doesn’t count! And Glint & Daggermouth technically are Dark Romances but since they’re also a fantasy and a dystopian, respectfully so I’ve not counted them.

Read 120 books in 2026

The goal of reading 10 books every month actually didn’t happen this month! However, with the exception of the one book I DNF’d, I didn’t rate anything lower than 3 stars! Which is a great month!

So I read 9 books in March, but in total we are still on track for reading 120 books in 2026!

Read a shelf on the TBR Cart

So… I redid my TBR cart in March, and that means my progress here has completely reset. And no books on my April TBR has come from the cart… That being said, because it is a free regin month there is a chance to make some progress on it in April!
