So two months have gone by, which means we are due for a check in on our challenges.

I started out in January mentioning at the start of my reviews whether or not that book had completed any of my challenge spots… But in February I realised that I had missed a bunch, and so I updated my reading journal with them but didn’t necessarily add it to the reviews. So I thought, instead, I would do an update post more regularly that the originally planned update half way through the year. That way I wouldn’t need to remember to include it in the review!

challenge 1: 12 Books to read inspired by…

We have done well on this challenge! I had expected to read one a month, but we have already crossed off a couple of books.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas – Inspired by Andy ✅
Belladonna by Adalyn Grace – Inspired by @Bookswithbrayt ✅
The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown – Inspired by Kay @KBooks12✅
Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider – Inspired by @Emfunnsbooks✅

Challenge 2: enter the cosmere

The main books at least in Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere are rather chunky – I don’t know if the stand alones are, and by nature the novella’s aren’t… But until I reach those, we have got some chunky books to get through.

In February, I managed to finally start this challenge.

The Final Empire – Mistborn Era 1 #1✅

challenge 3: bingo!

Now I set some additional boundaries on BINGO and they were: each book could only appear once and if it was part of another challenge it couldn’t be included on the BINGO board… I promptly forgot about the second one as I started including Sarah J. Maas and Brandon Sanderson on the board… Oops! But here is the board as it stands!

Over 500 Pages Long – City of Ruin by Charissa Weaks
A Highly Anticipated Book – Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
A Re-Read – Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
Outside of your Comfort Zone – Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Written by a UK Author – The Liar by Steve Cavanagh
Stayed up Late to Finish – Iron & Embers by Helen Scheuerer
One-Word Title – Pestilence by Laura Thalassa
An Author That is New to You – M.L Wang (Blood Over Bright Haven)
Interesting Formatting – Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
Enemies to Lovers Trope – Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider
A Thriller – The Plea by Steve Cavanagh
Set NOT in the UK or America but on Earth – What The River Knows by Isabel Ibañez
Made You Cry – Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent

We have our first BINGO!! Colum O (for bingO) has been completed! I only realised this when I was updating my reading journal with Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera that I realised I’d never filled in ‘A Thriller’!

challenge 4: sjm second chance

I felt as though the SJM’s Second Chance challenge was going really well… but actually I’ve only read one book in the ‘unknown territory’ (even though I barely remembered any of Crown of Midnight, I have still read it before). Regardless, I’m having a good time reading Throne of Glass alongside my partner at the moment!

Throne of Glass – Read in January ✅
Crown of Midnight – Read in February ✅
The Assassin’s Blade – Read in February ✅

Not bad going! That is some decent progress made on at least two of the challenges. The author specific ones, not so much, but still progress is progress! And I am making it!

I’ll see you again at the end of April for another update on how we’re doing!
