Considering I thought August would drag given that I had to have oral surgery and my anxiety was making it feel like I’d forever be waiting for the day to come and be done… August disappeared so quickly. I absolutely did not read as much as I thought I would, but I did read some great books! September has a surprisingly larger TBR because I’m simply not able to be sensible when it comes to it… Let’s get into it then!
So, first things first…
I’m in the middle of…
I am not in the middle of anything, I finished all the books I was going to finish by the end of August and haven’t yet figured out what I’m going to start. I may try and read Empire of Storms as part of the September TBR as it is the only book on the prompt list from August I didn’t get to – but I am not in fact, in the middle of anything.
Onto the fun stuff!
TBR Prompt (Haribo Tub) picks…
Guys, this is the last month of the Haribo tub! A container was freed up and so I moved my prompts into that container – it’s still not a posh mason jar or vase or glass anything, but it is prettier than the haribo tub I suppose, ha. So for the last month… let’s see what the Haribo Tub provided for September…
Read a book less than 400 pages
I originally picked three books as a possibility for this prompt, one provided by my fiancé, and ultimately picked the one he chose! An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green was chosen. It reminded me of War of the Worlds, with heavy social media influences… So, I’m looking forward to this one!
Read a Sci-Fi/Fan
This one was easy! I’ve wanted to read this book for literally years, and so I’m so glad to finally be reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown! I’m a little worried that I will want to immediately read the rest of this series, but so be it if that happens!
Read a book over 700 pages
Hm… So we got read a really short book and read a really long book. Now, here’s the thing with this one… I picked three books. I’ve done that to try and be smart about it, it gives me an option to let the mood reader in me pick in the moment what I fancy so that I don’t feel like I’m forced to read a chunky book that I really don’t want to read. The options are:
The Passage by Justin Cronin
The Courting of Bristol Keats by Mary E. Pearson
The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson
Ask someone for a number between 1 and 200. Read that number from your digital TBR.
Again, as my fiancé was in the room, he was responsible for the number he gave me. 157. Cruel man. I counted and landed on The Road of Bones by Demi Winters! My friend read this earlier this year and enjoyed it. He didn’t rave about it, but he did enjoy it, which is why I got it. So I am looking forward to reading this one, but it certainly isn’t one I would have picked for myself this month if it wasn’t for this prompt!
Read a book with stars on the cover
I am pretty sure this was added for one reason, and one reason only. I have been desperate to read this book since I heard about it at the end of last year and I’m pretty sure the sequel is soon to be released. Of course that means I may have to remove this prompt unless I discover other books with stars on the cover in my TBR but I don’t care because for now I finally get to read Heavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu! And I am very excited to do so.
No more prompts! Finish a series you’ve started.
Oops. This was picked last, which mean I’d already got quite a full TBR on the go… and so I picked a series that only had one book left in it. And I’m choosing to finish The Four Horseman series by Laura Thalassa, by reading Death. I’m not particularly excited for this as the last couple of books have felt very samey – but I am excited to finish the series and find out what happens.

A New Twist – Digital TBR Take Down
If there are less than 2 completely digital books on my Prompt TBR jar (aka I don’t also have a physical copy or an audio copy) then I will spin the wheel which has all of my Digital TBR (including Kindle Unlimited and digital ARCs) for one book. That one book has to be read in the month it’s picked. I can skip if I need to, but if I pick a book in a series I will read the first book / next book I’m on regardless of what I landed on… Now since I have no book club reads in September, I thought I’d spin the wheel anyway and add one to my TBR for September – let’s see what we get!

Anathema by Kerri Lake
Now the wheel has a +1 on Anathema, I’m hoping that shows I’ve spun it once already rather than adding any weight to it. Essentially, I’ll only remove the book once I’ve read it. But there is going to come a point where if I’ve picked it so many times and still not read it, perhaps it just isn’t for me. We’ll see! But for September, the must read is Anathema!
Finally, Book Club Picks
Cody & James (Cody & James’ Book Club)
The poll has finished, and this month we’ll be reading You Like it Darker by Stephen King (i’m sure James will be chuffed!). This is definitely one of those months where I won’t be participating in the read, but I felt that with all the books in the poll this month!
Emmy (What We’re Reading)
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang is finally getting it’s moment in the sun! Emmy’s book club has voted to read The Poppy War for September. This does mean I won’t be reading the book as I have already read it – but I’ll be able to participate in the chat!
So for September I have no official Book Club read. I’m in a number of other clubs on Fable that I don’t use for this challenge each month, so I may try to read one of those, but only if I need a break from my TBR!
