I did toy with the idea of doing another mood reading month after I slumped in April… however, there is a part of me that fears that I’d just continue down the path of a reading slump without the structure that a TBR can provide if you let it. So, I have pulled my normal 6 prompt TBR but no digital take down book for May.
So, first things first…
I’m in the middle of…
too many books, honestly… but the two I’m mentioning here are…
City of Souls and Sinners by Kayla Edwards – Audiobook (primarily)
This is my current audiobook choice, though this may have been a mistake as it’s definitely a spicy read. I’m hoping to switch to immersive which means I’ll read it at home instead of en route to work!
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman – Kindle (primarily)
I’m flying through Eleanor’s story, it’s so different to anything I’ve read before… but I am here for it! I’m mostly reading it on kindle, but occassionally I’m switching to audiobook via Bookbeat because I don’t want to stop reading but need to drive home for example…

Onto the fun stuff!
Picks from the TBR Prompt Jar!
1. Read a book on your paperback shelves
I did technically cheat with this one as the book I’ve chosen hasn’t been put on a shelf yet. It is a new release that was sat in a pile of April purchases so that I can make a haul post at the end of the month… I regret nothing! The choice for May is The Escape Game by Marissa Meyer and Tamara Moss. I love escape rooms, so I was immediately intrigued by the title alone!
2. Read a book that intimidates you
There was again only one real choice for this one, and I had been intending to use it for a Challenge square on my bingo board – though I am now not going to be using it for that square (you’ll see why on the next prompt!). But the book I’m choosing is Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh… the whole series is in a collection on my Kindle called ‘Gonna make you cry’. I’m terrified for this book and this series, but I’ve been wanting to read it for a couple of years now! So, putting my big girl pants on, and finally putting it on the TBR.
3. Read a book that works towards a CHALLENGE square on your bingo board.
I went through the challenge squares I have on my board to work on, and I have decided on reading the one book I regret not reading last year (yes this means the book counts towards ANOTHER bingo square as well, but it’s fine!)… Rain of Shadows and Endings by Melissa K. Roreich. I wanted to read this so desperately last year but everyone I saw said I needed to read Lady of Darkness first, and though I want to read it, I kept putting it off because I wanted to read Rain of Shadows and Endings. Thanks to Mads on youtube (link here) who read this before Lady of Darkness, I’m finally feeling confident enough to say fuck it and read this!
4. Read a book set in the UK (my friend Wendy came up with this prompt!)
Originally, I was going to read A War of Wyverns for this prompt, but I am honestly just not in the mood for it yet. So I have chosen The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke. I believe it is set in Scotland! And I’m really excited for it! I have a back up set in London (I’m 95% sure!) just in case I’m wrong and it’s not set in Scotland… but still! I’m really excited for this one!
5. Roll a d6 and read a book with that many words in the title
I got a 2! So I went hunting for a two word title. I found quite a few, surprisingly! But one jumped out at me immediately and so naturally I chose that, even if May doesn’t feel like the right month for it… I’m of course reading Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver, especially because the sequel is due out in June!
6. Pick a number between 2 & 5 using a random number gen. Read a book from your TBR with an average highest rating closest to the number (this is from Andy!)
Our random number gen gave us 5! Which is exciting! When I checked my goodreads, the first book wasn’t out (and I had no memory of adding to my TBR… it was removed), the second book is not available in the UK, the third book is the fourth book in a series I haven’t started yet, and then we got to Furybound by Sable Sorenson with an average rating of 4.64, which comes out early May! So, that is our final prompt pick! And I have been seeing some amazing reactions to this book which means naturally I’m very excited for it!

Digital TBR Take Down
With my TBR in May being 3 books physical, and 3 books on the kindle I have decided not to do a Digital TBR Take Down pick. I also haven’t updated the wheel with all the recent purchases, despite having the whole of April to do so! So, it’ll be back in June!
