Review:
The Eddie Flynn series is a connection of inter-connected stand alones, that can be read alone but I’d recommend reading them in order. This means that there may be spoilers for Eddie Flynn books 1 through 9 in my review, though spoilers for One of Us is Guilty, book 10, will be hidden as normal.
I make no attempt to hide how much I love the Eddie Flynn series, because it feels like watching a television show. Between Eddie & his team, the cases they work on, the danger they often find themselves in… it’s non stop action. And even though it is non stop action, we find (or at least I find) that even if we think we’re following and understanding and piecing together what is going on… it is almost never the case until you’re told what actually happened and then you finally piece together all the clues in hindsight. This was absolutely the case with One of Us is Guilty.
We’re following Eddie as he finds himself involved in a case where he can’t actually figure out if his client is guilty… though not of the crime she’s accused. Along side Eddie, we have his team – Harry, Bloch, Lake and Denise (Clarence too, technically!), and I absolutely love this group – the found family continue to own my heart, I miss Kate but I understand her situation. So everyone pulls together to try and solve the crime and save their client from being arrested for soething she didn’t do… all while Eddie is trying to figure out what she did do, because he isn’t 100% set on her innocence.
The only downside with One of Us is Guilty is that it did feel slower in places compared to other books despite the feeling that there was stuff happening constantly. There is a good mix of investigation (including POVs with Bloch and Lake), case and court room drama! I can’t complain about that. And whilst we didn’t have chapters from the killer’s POV we did have chapters from the accussed POV and from a mystery diary. I liked this switch up!
So all in all, I loved it. I feared at the start that this was how we were finding out that Eddie Flynn was coming to an end, but I have hope that Steve Cavanagh is going to be writing another in this series! Or at least, I have to have hope because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters – which is why I fear for their lives and I’m never convinced any of them are safe.
A perfect couple but one of them is a killer. Which one?
