Review:
I really thought this was going to be a straight forward legal thriller, I expected a twist sure but what we got was crazy! We’re following a lawyer, Leila, as she’s handed her first murder case – one that by all accounts she shouldn’t be handling. This is because the defendant has specifically requested her, problem is he’s not talking…
Lelia is having to make sense of a situation, that makes no sense, to protect her client. Whilst it soon becomes clear she’s in danger of both a life and death variety, and a keeping her marriage together variety… because she’s being stalked and the prosecutor in the case is her husband.
I began immersive reading this, but I didn’t gel with the narrator so I switched to just using my eyeballs. It was a good switch because I was enjoying the book whilst immersive reading it but I didn’t actually feel in it. When I dropped the audiobook, I quickly found myself hooked. I’m glad I made the move as early as I did, because it allowed me to become so obsessed with this story that I ended up rating it 5 stars!
This was cleverly written, with a cast of characters that have you questioning who you should be trusting… and it turns out, you shouldn’t be trusting this author! She may be writing legal thrillers, but she had me gaslit like I was reading a Gothic Fantasy named Fairydale. I loved this story, the unexpected twists in the story just added to it.
This may be a debut, but I’m certainly hoping it isn’t her last because this was excellent! I can’t wait to see what she writes next!
