So when Jackie receives a mysterious phone call offering them $100,000 to let someone bury a body on their land, the answer isn’t as simple as they thought it would be.
It’s a deal that could change their lives. But when a woman in the next town over goes missing, it’s a deal that could ruin them forever.
Review:
I went hunting on Audible for a few shorter listens that I could possibly read on the way to Italy, but then I was struggling to focus so I threw on The Call thinking it would help me clear my head and lock in on what I needed to do… I am thankful this happened because The Call was not a travel book!!!
In this audible original, we follow Jackie and Pete who are the owners of a local pub that is struggling financially after the bushfires in Dunmore, Australia. One day they receive a phone call on their landline offering 100,000 dollars if they let the caller bury a body on their land…
I loved this moral dilemma that they found themselves in, and how real their reactions are to it after they make their decision. How the story came together had my jaw on the floor because I hadn’t made the connections that would have led me to the answer. It was so well written!!
The narrator was brilliant! I don’t think I’ve heard many Austrailian narrators but she was definitely a good one! And it would seem the Austrailian accent lends itself well to the faster speeds that I listen at!
This is a just shy of 4 hour audiobook, so it is definitely a short story, but it’s that good that it doesn’t feel like it! If it was longer, I would have absolutely given it 5 stars because it had my attention the whole time. I’m definitely going to seek out more of these audible productions.
