Sheesh, when there is less to update on these challenges I do tend to forget to actually upload them! This is SEPTEMBERS update (yes it’s coming in October, my bad!) – the next one will be the final one in December, before I’m looking at what my challenges will be for 2026! Crazy.

There has been very little progress actually made on these challenges. And not because I haven’t been reading, but simply because the two big challenges haven’t had any progress made on them in a little while – I’ll explain why when I get to them!

Challenge 1: 12 Books to read inspired by…

We’ve managed to tick off THREE books on this challenge!
Howl’s Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
and
Anathema by Keri Lake
That leaves us with 4 books to go, 2 of which I’m hoping to get to in October (Dracula and A Dowry of Blood) and then that leaves two for November and December… We may just manage to do this one!

challenge 2: Enter the Cosmere

There is still no update on The Cosmere challenge. And it isn’t for a lack of trying. I added The Well of Ascension to my TBR again in September and really thought that would be the month I got to it… But then I did the 24 Hour Reading Challenge and slumped as a result of one of the books and it meant I didn’t have it in me to pick up another chunky book…
I really do still plan to get to this one!! Because I am excited to read it – I just need the right time.

challenge 3: bingo!

After finally reading Red Rising this year, which has been on my TBR and bookshelves since TWENTY-FIFTEEN! We have crossed off ‘Been on your TBR too long’.
One more and we have completed the whole board! If I manage to get to Dracula, then we have A Classic too!

challenge 4: SJM second chance

I was reading Throne of Glass alongside my partner, and I took a break from the series to give him chance to catch up but he has been in a slump for a while and hasn’t been able to read Empire of Storms therefore I haven’t started Tower of Dawn.
However, the itch has returned… and I did have to stop myself from picking ToD up the other day in favour of reading my TBR so I have a feeling this part of the SJM Second Chance Challenge may be finished this year!

We are making progress in challenges – but the author challenges have been the hardest ones! I’m thinking next year I want to continue these challenges (but move the Cosmere to a personal one, I probably won’t update it anymore) so I’ll have an author challenge (SJM) – though I am tempted to also do a thriller based author challenge, Bingo and Books inspired by… but I may also do either an A-Z challenge or some other kind of challenge that may get me reading out of my comfort zone perhaps… I haven’t decided yet!

I’ve still got a few months to do some more looking into challenge ideas for 2026! Though it is getting closer! I’m still very excited to see where I land at the end of the year. I’m hoping for a complete Bingo board, all 12 books read in the 12 books inspired by challenge, and at least all of Throne of Glass read from the SJM challenge!
