Review:
The Baby Dragon Bakery is the sequel to A.T Qureshi’s The Baby Dragon Cafe. They are interconnected stand alones with each book following a different couple, that being said there may be spoilers for the books before in the series. Any spoilers for this book will be hidden as normal if they come up.
I loved The Baby Dragon Cafe, way more than I thought I would and so immediately knew I wanted to continue the series. It was originaly going to be a trilogy and so I was holding out on the release of book 3 before I continued reading. Luckily, because each book follows a different couple, that meant it was certainly easier to have a longer gap between each read. However, because the same characters appear in each of the books, my long gap did mean that I had to spend a bit of extra brain power reminding myself of who the characters were.
So, onto The Baby Dragon Bakery. I was really excited for this one, I expected it was going to be connected to Theo who is the baker that provides fusion cafe bakes to Saphira’s Baby Dragon Cafe in book one! And when I realised that it followed Lavinia, Saphira’s best friend and Theo I was pretty excited! However, I wasn’t really prepared for a friends to lovers romance and I’m starting to realise that this trope doesn’t really fit for me. I’m one of those people where if a romance issue could be solved by having a conversation, then I’m screaming JUST SPEAK TO EACH OTHER at the pages… which does nothing but frustrate me further.
If it wasn’t for the baby dragons, Lavinia’s family, Saph & Aiden popping up and the friendship between Lavinia and Theo, I would have DNF’d because the romance just really didn’t hit for me. The baby dragons are the stars of this cosy series, because they’re adorable but each of the baby rascals we spend time with have their own personalities and I adore them.
So, I am very grateful that there was enough to keep me in the story but given that I just found it to be rather slow and not particularly entertaining, I am not sure I would recommend this one. Unless you really love cosy vibes and friends to lovers, I suppose. I want to read Rider of Dragons by this author, set in this world, and so I will be reading the third book and giving each book its fresh chance.
