October, my favourite month of the year. It has been for as long as I can remember. I love spooky season, I love the movies, the decorations, the books… I love the weather change into crunchy leaves, sweater weather, hot chocolates… But also the fact that we’re heading into Christmas time which, especially when I was younger, was just so filled with happieness. October marks the start of my favourite time of the year.

For a portion of October I mourn the loss of my Dad and my best friends Dad. Octobers haven’t been the same as they were when I was younger for a while. However from now on, they’ll also be the month that I married the love of my life. I am so excited to finally call him my husband! But, my focus for reads this month (as long as the prompts allow) is definitely more spooky time than romantic yay married time…

So, first things first…

I’m in the middle of…

Aracana Academy by Elise Kova – Kindle Read
I had a list of 3 books from my 26 in 2026 to read in September and I just didn’t finish Arcana Academy in time! So, I’m going to be taking it into October – hopefully not for too long, but as long as it’s required.

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Physical Read
I was contemplating introducing a ‘picking a book via a pallette of colours’ into my prompt jar, so I tested it out for my ‘next’ read and got Atmosphere, however I have barely started it at the end of September so it too is coming into October!

October’s fun stuff

I loved the way I did September’s TBR!! And given that I’m getting married in October, I thought I’d do the same thing again! Once again, we’re doing 3 picks from the TBR jar because they’re fun, I enjoy them! And then 3 books to help get through my 26 in 2026. I’ll be honest and say I’ve focussed on shorter reads this month, but I’ve also tried to focus on the ones that give me October vibes!

Picks from the TBR Prompt Jar!

1. A ‘new to you’ author

This was such an easy pick for me because there was a book I really wanted to read in October! Incidents Around The House by Josh Malerman was an easy choice! Now, there were so many options for this but I wanted to stick to spooky reads this month on my TBR!

2. A Debut author

Another easy one, A Grave Inheritance by Felicity Epps which was a Waterstones book of the month that I picked up August last year with the intention to read it in October… So, better late than never!!

3. A book published this year

I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear this one was the harder one to pick because there have been so many amazing books published this year that I’m excited to read! And I won’t lie, I was very torn between a number of books. Ultimately I decided that I couldn’t decide, so I took the easy option and that’s Souls in Ruin by Jacqueline White as I’ve got an advanced copy of the traditionally published version which I believe comes out in November! This feels like it fits the vibes of spooky time very well!

However, that’s not all…

I would also like to try and make a dent in my 26 in 2026 reads as I have 14 left and I still think it’s totally possible to finish this list by the end of 2026! But I need to remember it exists and priortise it. So, in a way we are still ending up with 6 books, but the 26 in 2026 choises are flexible as long as I read 3 books from this list. These are the 3 I expect I’ll pick up:

4. Girls of Dark Divine by E.V. Woods

5. A Match Made in Hell by Charlotte Ingham

6. Bride by Ali Hazelwood

Digital TBR Take Down

I don’t know for sure if my kindle-tbr on Goodreads is accurate, but I opted to try and do a bingo square with this Digital TBR Take Down!
This pick is pretty funny honestly because I did want to read this but I certianly wasn’t leaning towards it for October! And yet number 122 means I’ll be reading…

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

So, I should at least be able to watch the movie by the end of October!

Cody & James’ Book Club – The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
