Synopsis: Goodreads

Who knows what the storm will blow in…

Casey’s cabin in the wilderness is not built for a hurricane. Her roof shakes, the lights flicker, and the tree outside her front door sways ominously in the wind. But she’s a lot more worried about the girl she discovers lurking outside her kitchen window.

She’s young. She’s alone. And she’s covered in blood.

The girl won’t explain where she came from or loosen her grip on the knife in her right hand. And when Casey makes a disturbing discovery in the middle of the night, things take a turn for the worse.

The girl has a dark secret. One she’ll kill to keep. And if Casey gets too close to the truth, she may not live to see the morning.

Review:

I am so glad I have finally started my Freida journey! I’ve been so intimidated by the sheer amount of books that she has written that it meant I was struggling to actually start. And that’s even with advice telling me what books to start with (with the exception of The Housemaid, everyone seems to have differing opinions on what to start with!)…

However, The Final Chapter (fable bookclub run by Francesca) had The Intruder chosen for October! So I took this as a sign to begin my journey into Freida. I regret nothing, because actually I had a great experience with this. I don’t know what it says about me, but despite the fact that I found this to be easy to read… I didn’t see any of the twists coming!!

It felt very atmospheric, the vibes were great! I was rather on edge due to the ‘secluded’ nature of our main characters situation! Casey is renting a cabin in the -well not woods but still, in a secluded area following her firing from her job in a school. Due to a big storm that’s coming in, Casey is trying to get her landlord to look at the roof of her cabin that she thinks is falling apart and a tree near to her house that already looks precarious enough… In very sterotypical bad landlord fashion nothing gets done, so she just remains nervous about the situation. And for me, her nervousness transferred to me! Then Casey realises that there is someone in her toolshed… and holy crap that’s terrifying! Can you imagine looking out your window during a rain storm and seeing someone’s face? Someone entering your shed?!

So I truly had a good time with this one. It did feel somewhat repetitive in parts and that did prevent a higher rating – but I didn’t see the twist coming and I did think it was great! So I do think it’s worth reading! I can’t say for sure if it’s the best one to start on as I have only read this one! But I liked it and would recommend it!

“So why can’t I shake the feeling that something terrible is going to happen tonight?”
