CROWNED BY DESTINY. CONSUMED BY VENGEANCE.

Against all odds, Meryn Cooper has inherited the crown—and a deadly war. As the Kingdom of Nocturna splinters under the weight of generations of lies, it is up to Meryn, her bonded direwolf Anassa, and their allies to bring the country back from the brink.

But the commoners, the Bonded, and the nobles are distrustful of their new queen and Meryn is caught in a deadly game of politics. Meanwhile, Meryn’s beloved younger sister, Saela, is more at risk than ever.

Confusingly, the one person Meryn can trust is Stark Therion—the dark, dangerous Alpha she thought hated her as much as she loathed him. Yet, his loyalty is unshakeable. His presence is intoxicating. And with his guidance, Meryn can seize an unthinkable level of power.

With enemies closing in and shadows stirring in her dreams, Meryn stands to lose her kingdom—and her heart.

Blood will spill. Bonds will break. Fate will be tested.

Review:

Fury Bound is the sequel to Direbound by Sable Sorensen, therefore there may be spoilers in the below review for book 1. If there would be spoilers for Fury Bound, they will be hidden.

I didn’t love Direbound as much as I had hoped to – but I did enjoy it. I liked our FMC, her wolf Anassa and her two friends Isabel and Venna, a lot. But the trials left a bit to be desired and I didn’t gel with Stark (who was hinted to be a love interest) nor some of the other characters. I basically enjoyed it but really felt like it could have been better. However, I had high hopes that the sequel would give opportunity for relationships to be developed and the story would obviously be forwarded…

I can confirm, the relationships were developed further. I already liked Isabel and Venna and loved them, but there were certain events in Fury Bound that took friendships in directions I did not expect, and new friendships were forged. I really liked this aspect of Fury Bound! I didn’t particularly love that Sable Sorenson is totally fine with hurting me, but you know what, it’s fine. However, I couldn’t decide how I felt about the direction the story was going…

I thought I liked it, I really did! Meryn having to navigate her newfound royal status, get a handle on her sisters new situation, and not to mention her Royal Ex causing trouble – these were all story lines that I was so here for. There was an entire almost-mini-trials-esk section that I ate up as well. But as we got further into the story and what I thought was the main overall story started clearly coming to an end, I got confused… then concerned… then I just realised I didn’t like where we were going. And so, that’s kind of where I was left at the end of Fury Bound. Not liking the ending, not liking how anti-climactic the story I THOUGHT was the main story was (abruptly) ended, and not particularly liking the direction it’s going in for Ruin Bound.

However, it truly isn’t all bad news because despite my feelings at the end of the book, there are a couple of things that I like enough (and I am intrigued further about) that I just can’t seem to bring myself to say for certain that I won’t pick up the third book. When I finished Fury Bound, I rated it lower and I was convinced that I wasn’t going to read the third book. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised that there are still storylines that I do like and I am intrigued enough by that actually my journey with this trilogy might not be over, yet.

That means we are comfortably settling with a 3 star rating, and I may finish out this trilogy. I don’t love it, but it could be a case of sequel syndrome, middle book syndrome, whatever you want to call it.
