I thought I was free of my reading slump, but The City of Brass was so hard to get through that I honestly thought I’ll play it safe and assume I’m still slumping… So I changed genre’s again, and this time I think it really worked!!
Here is what I read in May

I ended up having such a solid month!! Did I go back and pick up the books I started while I was slumping, like I said I would? No… I didn’t. And honestly I’ll probably put them in the soft DNF, the on pause pile, now because I’ll probably need to restart them if I did pick them up again. And I’m very sad about that especially for Half City, because it just sounded like something I’d really enjoy… but when I swapped genres, I swapped hard… But I really think it worked.

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

book of the month
Redeeming 6 by Chloe Walsh
When I finished Keeping 13 I was so scared to read Joey’s story because he went through what Shannon was going through, and then some… And I loved his story. It hurt so much, but I loved it. Joey and Aiofe aren’t my favourite couple, but I do adore Joey.
Runner up
Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh
I almost didn’t put Binding 13 as the runner up because Redeeming 6 is the BotM, however! I can’t deny that Binding 13 absolutely broke me when I read it so I couldn’t not give it its moment, just because another book in the series got BotM.

Biggest Surprise of the Month

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
When Wendy gave me this book for my 26 in 2026 she did it with the note that it was outside of my genres, way outside, but it was worth the read. And she was so right. I went on such a rollercoaster with this book and in the end I absolutely understood why it was being so heavily recommended to me. I am so glad I read this!
Any 2026 Challenge progress?
26 in 2026
In May we read 12 books, which was excellent, but in the grand scheme of my 26 in 2026… I didn’t get to that many! Here are the ones we did read though:
- Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
- Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh
Both of these books were excellent though, so I’m pretty happy!!
BINGO!
I’m still pretty proud of my progress on BINGO in May! Let’s go through what we crossed off:
- Challenge Square: Eat a meal or snack inspired from your current read
I struggled with this one so much because I put ‘current read’ as a specification. Well then, colour me shocked when I bring a ham and cheese toastie into the living room for my lunch the day after reading about Johnny making Shannon a ham and cheese toastie. The moment I realised this I was giddy! I really thought I’d never cross this one off! - Read a Sports Romance
The rule is the same book can’t be used twice, so Binding 13 was out (which was originally being read to cross this off). But then I continued reading the series, I couldn’t stop! So Keeping 13 instead crossed off this square! - What was the one book you wanted to read in 2025 but didn’t? Read that.
Well, I won’t go over why I didn’t get round to it again, instead I’ll just celebrate that I finally read Rain of Shadows and Endings and it was excellent I am so excited to continue this series!! I’m so mad at myself for not reading it sooner.
So that’s all I crossed off in May, but I am so happy with all of them! And I’m still giddy over the challenge square being accidentally crossed off.
Read 120 books in 2026
May really got me back on track!! The goal is 10 books a month in order to reach 120 in 2026. Of course I may read over or under that, but that’s how I came up with the 120 goal. Following April though we were behind, only just but still. I worried that if my slump continued I’d be in trouble. Thankfully I identified that my slump was almost completely connected to Fantasy books so I was able to take a break from those ones – only picking up onces that I was really interested in to prevent the slump from keeping me from finishing them!
