September started off so strongly, despite a disappointing read early on, but it was just a busy month in general that it wasn’t what I had hoped it would be. I guess, it wasn’t too disimilar to a September’s reading while I was in school! That being said, at least September was busy for positive reasons. I’m not upset with my reading this month at all, I’m playing catch up from here on in though so reaching double digits was a huge plus!

Here is what I read in September

I don’t think I expected September to be this good of a reading month! Okay there was a DNF and I’m still gutted about it, and there were multiple 1.5 star reads and I’m sad about that too… but I listened to some amazing audiobooks, read some jaw dropping books, and ticked off a few ARCs that I had on my list! Not to mention, I read Burn of the Everflame which I think was tied for most anticipated read of 2026 next to Rites of the Starling – and look both were 6 star reads!! All in all, despite the bad, September had a whole lot of good and I’m thrilled!!

Book Bracket Entry – Favourite Book of the Month

book of the month
Burn of the Everflame by Penn Cole

I’ll tell you right here and now, that I read my number one book of the year in September. I don’t think anything can possibly top Burn of the Everflame. Penn Cole clearly put everything into this book and I loved it. I had such high expectationes (and hopes) for this final book but was so scared that it would let me down as final books have a history of doing… but this did not. It was perfect.

Runner up
Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray

If you don’t think you like legal thrillers, I beg you to read Dissection of a Murder. It’s a stand alone, so it isn’t going to feel like a commitment but it is brilliant. The twists in this were so clever and well written!! I beg you, read Dissection of a Murder.

Biggest Surprise of the Month

The Poisoner by I.V. Ophelia

I was so excited for The Poisoner, it was on my 26 in 2026 because I fully expected this to be a 5 star read… It wasn’t. The first half icked me out so badly that I almost DNF’d it. The second half explored a sub plot that I really thought would pull me back in, and it did a bit… but not enough. I didn’t quite reach ‘rage reading’ status, but I really don’t have many positives for it, so it got the 1.5 star rating… which is crazy…

Any 2026 Challenge progress?

26 in 2026

I’m a little saddned about this challenge – I had really hoped to read 3 books from my 26 in 2026 list, but in the end I only managed 2 of them.

  • Riftborne by Grenwich & Lennox
  • The Poisoner by I.V. Ophelia

Honestly reading The Poisoner took longer than I thought it would on account of the fact that I wasn’t enjoying it. But I am reading Arcana Academy by Elise Kova, so hopefully this section will be a bit more bulked out in October? Assuming the wedding situation doesn’t prevent me from reading!

BINGO!

We crossed off two additional squares in September:

  • Phone a friend; ask them to recommend a book and read it
I asked my friend James and he told me to pick up Carl’s Doomsday Scenario – and I’m glad I did, because I am excited for the third installment!
  • Read the prettiest sprayed edge you own, that you haven’t read before
I kept flip-flopping on this one, because what I thought was the prettiest sprayed edge would change day by day, or I wouldn’t be able to choose! However when The Broken Binding edition of The Girl with A Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean came into my life I knew that it was the perfect book for this prompt!! I absolutely love the fu talisman edges!!

So, we haven’t added to our bingo count, it still remains at 2 but I’m totally fine with that!

Read 120 books in 2026

I am so pleased to say that I’ve managed to get back on track for reaching 120 books by the end of 2026! Let me say I was never ‘so far behind’ that I really thought it wouldn’t be possible, but it did at times think I was going to have a really rough time making it given that both September & October were always going to be really busy months for me… Yet, thanks to the power of immersive reading which meant that my brain didn’t just wander off and want to do something else, I managed to make huge progress this month reading 15 books! Putting us at 90 books read so far this year. I couldn’t be happier about it honestly.

90/120
